3 Important Tips For College Freshmen

Updated: Sep 1, 2021

College is a whole new world and with it being the first time many young adults experience independence and living on their own, it is vital to have a plan for success. In this blog we'll share 3 essential tips for college success for incoming Freshmen.

#1: Don't Feel Pressured To Pick A Major

As an incoming Freshmen you've already made some of the biggest decisions in your life such as what school to attend and whether to stay home or live on campus. It's common to hear others bragging about what their majors are, and you may even have already declared yours. Now you may find yourself stressing and wondering if you made the right decision. Don't worry - for the vast majority of majors, your first two years of courses are general university pre-requisites that all students are mandated to take regardless of their major. This gives you ample time before making a more permanent decision, however you should plan to be more concrete on your major selection by the end of your first year.

#2 Budget and Keep Track of Your Money

The broke college student trope doesn't have to be a reality for you. Avoiding the money traps of accepting more loans than you need to, spending frivolously, and poor budget and credit card management will position you for success long after graduation. Download a budget app to your phone to help you conveniently keep track of your spending and invest time in learning more about financial management.

#3 Be Informed About The Resources Available To You - And Use Them

Every college and university is judged based on the quality of education they provide and their graduation rates. Thus, you can understand why they invest so much into making sure that students like you have a plethora of resources available at your disposal for academic, emotional, and career support. Some of the services available to you may include tutoring, professors' office hours, learning labs, health services, and career services.
